Vallila’s new SS17 collection, consisting of more than 60 designs, highlights the power of connections - inspired by the links between communities and cultures, history, and the natural world around us. Celebrating 100 years of Finnish independence, Vallila’s new collection also focuses nostalgically on the Finnish landscape and culture, delighting in the details of ‘Finnishness’. Designs feature hazy sea landscapes, giant ash trees, natural wetlands, colourful folklore, native flora and fauna, alongside designs that depict the energy and vitality of life in the heart of the city.
This Spring/Summer, Vallila's design team have been inspired for the new season by strong colours, celebration and joyfulness, and the mindfulness and tranquility found in nature. The collections are designed in-house at Vallila’s headquarters in Helsinki by four Finnish designers: Tanja Orsjoki, Matleena Issakainen, Riina Kuikka and Saara Kurkela. Alongside the in-house design team, one star guest designer this season is fashion illustrator Olesja Hännikäinen, her charming and elegant decorative patterns bringing an element of haute couture to the collection. Additionally, iconic midcentury textile artist Marjatta Metsovaara features in the collection, with reinventions of archive designs.
